About The Lane Vineyard’s Occasion Wines:

The Lane Vineyard Occasion wines were first created in 1996. From the highest quality parcels of fruit within our vineyard these wines are determined by their vine age, purity, depth and spectrum of flavours. Low yields provide fruit concentration and structure. Each variety is hand picked, handled gently in the winery & aged in the finest quality French Oak. Occasion wines, they are complex, structured and fine.

Winemaker Comments: Fruit from both Cabernet blocks in front of the cellar door are blended to produce 19th Meeting. These blocks are shoot and bunch thinned to produce lovely, light filled open canopies. Planted in 1993 there are 5 hectares in total.

Winemaker: Michael Schreurs

Viticulturalist: Marty Edwards

Vinification and Maturation: Amongst the oldest Cabernet plantings in the Hills, ‘19th’ enjoys a warm Northerly aspect and long North/South rows to maximise sunlight exposure and airflow through the canopy, ensuring even and complete ripeness.

A small parcel of post ferment skin contact fills the middle palate and completes the structure that maturation in French oak barrique provides.

2016 Vintage: Warm days and cool nights. A near perfect vintage.

TASTING NOTE:

Colour: Inky black with polished garnet hues.

Aroma: Lifted black currants, bay leaves and green peppercorn with supporting cedary oak.

Palate: Concentrated savoury cassis and dry herbs, fine, chalky tannins, supporting oak with great length and complexity.

pH: 3.62

Acidity: 6.0g/L

Altitude: 440m above sea level

Clone: LC10

Aspect: North facing

Soil: Ancient soils, mostly gravel with limestone / calcium silicates and ferrous pebbles spread throughout.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Wine Writer: Tyson Stelzer

  • 100 Best Australian Wines (2012 Vintage)

Wine review: ‘Shed some of its greener, cerebral notes and gone into a darker phase with touches of cacao and espresso providing the structure to underpin its gloriously lush cassis tones. It’s like this estate makes a DIY dinner party trail of wines within its folio as you can move seamlessly from one wine to the next satiating every taste bud in your being.’
