VINTAGE 2015:

Winter started well with average rainfall for June and July and then essentially nothing for August. This rollercoaster rainfall pattern continued through spring and summer with some months above, some below – an unnerving time for our vineyard managers. Despite these fluctuating environments, with warm, blustery conditions and then forecasts of showers and humidity the vineyards remained healthy and disease free. Some welcome mid-January rain saw the vineyards looking vibrantly green with open canopies and evenly distributed bunches. The harvest itself came with a rush with one of the earliest starts ever, however, a midharvest lull in ripening allowed us to catch up. The reds came in at optimium ripeness with bright and concentrated flavours and the whites are intensely varietal in character.

CẢM NHẬN GIÁC QUAN

“With six years in the bottle prior to release, time has only just begun to weave its magic with this ‘1927 Vines’ release. Vivacious ginger spice, lemon curd, and hints of honeysuckle grace a palate of searingly intense citrus and tropical fruits braced by a prodigious mineral-edged acid line that will carry this wine well into the future with further character and complexity to be realised out to 2040 and beyond.”

ABOUT THE WINE

Established in 1860, and purchased by the Purbrick family in 1925, Tahbilk is blessed with significant older vineyard plantings. These limited release wines are produced from the Estate’s 1927 planted Marsanne vines – some of the oldest in the world. The fruit is harvested early at high natural acid levels, no chemicals are added and the juice becomes fully oxidised. The clean juice is then fermented at 11° to 15°C with the resultant wine ‘water’ white, with high acid and flavourless. The wine is bottled and then the magic happens. “It evolves into a wonderful, textural, mineral wine … it’s a classic ugly duckling to beautiful swan story.” Alister Purbrick ~ Winemaker & 4th Generation. “The beauty of making the wine this way is that it develops in the bottle very slowly and has long term cellaring potential.”
