Quality is the overriding priority. Benchmark value for money via sophisticated and modern wine styles is the constant objective.
Since that time the family has also become the custodian of six other premium wine Estates, and the broader enterprise is now known as The Usual Suspects Collective. Although these properties are run separately, this does provide Hesketh Wines with benchmark fruit-sourcing options in each region, as well as an incredibly experienced winemaking team.
Sixty-odd years is not necessarily a long time in the wine industry. But as a great friend once pointed out; ‘It’s not how old you are, but the miles you’ve done’. Eat well, drink well, have fun!
THE HESKETH FAMILY
Jonathon Hesketh- Proprietor & Principal Debt Holder
Jonathon, originally from Adelaide, had early exposure to wine during a year in Burgundy with his family at age nine, picking up a French accent. Following school, he spent another year in France working on the family vineyard project. Grateful to Greg Trott of Wirra Wirra Vineyards, Jonathon reentered the wine industry, spending seven years there and working in New Zealand on distribution. Eventually, he established the Hesketh Wine Company in Adelaide in 2006, driven by the desire to forge his own path for his family’s sake.
Trish Hesketh- Chief Task Juggler and Binding Agent
Born in Northern Ireland to Joe and Eleanor, Trish moved to Melbourne with her family at age three. She worked in fashion with Perri Cutten before a twelve-year career as an Ansett flight attendant. After her third child, she left aviation. Trish also managed the Cellar Door in McLaren Vale and worked in PR in New Zealand. Known as ‘The Dish,’ she’s the brains, common sense, and glue of the Hesketh tribe, with a remarkable multitasking ability.
Robert Hesketh Chairman, Compass & Protagonist
Everyone needs an experienced head in their business, and we’re pretty fortunate to have one with this many miles under his belt. It’s probably easier to mention what Robert hasn’t done in the course of fifty years in the wine industry. Either way, he has always followed the path less travelled and has always been a constant source of guidance and inspiration. The other reality is that Robert is only here to point and direct because he has had our Matriarch Shirley beside him along the way.
Winemaking Team Andrew Hardy, Keeda Zilm & Luke Broadbent
The Hesketh winemaking team is made up of Andrew Hardy, Keeda Zilm and Luke Broadbent. With over seventy years of experience between them, our winemakers continue to produce wines that reflect the Hesketh Wine Company style and ethos. They work with fruit from our own vineyards, and those of specialist growers, to produce a diverse range of wine styles best suited to each region. This ranges from classics like Coonawarra Cabernet and Eden Valley Riesling, all the way through to emerging regional/varietal combinations like Clare Valley Fiano and Barossa Valley Negroamaro.
